I am a beginner and would like to pick your brains for tips or advise.

I made a group for beginners to join if they like. If you have any advise, tips or otherwise please don't hesitate to share.

get lessons- this is a must do
see if you can find a specialised bass teacher rather than a guy who plays guitar and a bit of bass on the side

I have been teaching myself using books and the internet. I know a lot of people who play guitar or bass and ask for their advise a lot. As far as the lessons go I can't really afford them right now. I'm not sure if there are any specialised bass teachers anywhere near where I live. the best i could probably do is some one who does both. Small towns can suck sometimes. I would love to be able to have lessons. Can I be as good without them... in a longer amount of time of coarse? If I can't go it on my own and be as good then i will have to get lessons.

you can still learn by yourself, but in the long term getting a teacher will pay off.
there is only so far you can go with a wrong technique
anyways, keep at it and practice is th most important thing

a great advise from billy sheehan and I found it very useful is always try to play or practice wearing your bass with the strap so you are always in one same position either if you are sitting or standing up you'll be in the same level with your bass.
